Augusto Lopes Bio
Born in 1984 in the southeast of Brazil, Rafael Augusto Lopes always shared a passion for music. At a really young age Augusto started playing the piano, but soon discovered that the guitar was the instrument he wanted to play. In the age of 14 he got his first guitar, immediately forming a band with his school friends. Soon Augusto discovered a passion for a different role in the music biz, producing, recording and mixing entered his life at the age of 17 when he started working at MCR Studios, one of the biggest commercial music studio in Brazil, since then he always kept a double life as musician and audio engineer.
Augusto worked in some of the most renowned rock oriented studios in São Paulo like Mr. Som where he worked with bands like Hangar, Dr. Sin, Threat and many others with producers Marcello Pompeu and Heros Trench, both from the legendary Thrash band Korzus, and Norcal Studios where he produced and recorded alongside Grammy winner producer Adriano Daga and Brendan Duffey, there he worked with the guitar player Kiko Loureiro, punk legends of Lobotomia and many Pop/Rock/Metal underground acts.
In 2002 Augusto was invited to join Eternal Malediction, a young Black/Death Metal band, with them he recorded one demo that soon got them a contract with a small local label to release EM’s debut “Endeavour Through Thorns”. He also has some projects both with other musicians and even a one-man-band. After playing the local scene and sharing the stage with Metal legends Deicide and Behemoth, his chops got attention from another Brazilian band, in 2008 he was then invited to join the Thrash Metal act Torture Squad.
With just a few weeks in the band, in april 2008 he started an extensive European tour over more than 16 countries and 70 cities, promoting TS 2008 release, Hellbound. His work with the band led him to sign an endorsement deal with Washburn guitars and Randall amplifiers, and that’s his set-up since then.
In 2009 the promotion included a European tour with American icons Exodus and Overkill, plus the Irish band Gama Bomb. Alongside the tour his band mates and he were composing their next release, AEquilibrium, wich was produced by his friends and co-workers Brendan Duffey and Adriano Daga at Norcal Studios. AEquilibrium was released by Wacken records in august 2010 and the band is now preparing an extensive tour to spread the new album.
Rafael Augusto Lopes is currently working at both sides of the glass, as an artist and as an audio engineer.
